Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu - 4 Days




Day 1: Cusco | Mollepata - Challacancha - Soraypampa (Humantay Lake)
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa
- Start time: Hotel pick-up at 5:00 am.
- Travel: 3-hour drive to Mollepata with views of the Salkantay and Veronica snow-capped mountains.
- Breakfast: At Soraypampa, prepared by the cook.
- Main activity: 7 km (round trip) hike to Humantay Lagoon (3 hours).
- Maximum altitude: 4200 masl (13,799 ft).
- Total distance: 10 km (6.21 miles).
- Duration: 6 hours of hiking, moderate-difficult level.
- Accommodation: Tents near Salkantay mountain.
- Extras: Stargazing after dinner.
Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Huayramachay – Chaullay

- Start time: 5:00 am wake-up call with coca tea in your tent.
- Route: Ascent to Salkantay Pass (4620 masl/15,255 ft), the highest point of the trek.
- Distance: 7 km uphill (4 hours), 12 km downhill (6 hours) for a total of 19 km (11.80 miles).
- Scenery: Snow-capped peaks of Salkantay, Humantay, and Pumasillo.
- Weather: From cold mountain climate to warm cloud forest.
- Accommodation: Tents in Challway Village (2900 masl/9,514 ft).
- Difficulty: Difficult, 10 hours of hiking.
Day 3: Chaullay – Collpapampa – Lucmabamba – Aguas Calientes

- Start time: 5:30 am wake-up with coca tea.
- Route: 16 km (7 hours) hike through dense jungle and along the Salkantay River.
- Stops: Villages to taste local fruits and visit coffee plantations in Lucmabamba.
- Transport: Local bus to Hidroeléctrica and train to Aguas Calientes.
- Altitudes: Maximum 2900 masl (9,514 ft), minimum 2100 masl (6,889 ft).
- Accommodation: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
- Start time: Early morning to take the first bus to Machu Picchu.
- Guided tour: 2-hour visit to Machu Picchu highlights.
- Optional: Huayna Picchu hike ($70 extra).
- Return: Train to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco, hotel drop-off.
- Meals: Breakfast included.
