Day 1: Cusco – Inca Trail (Piscacucho – Wayllabamba)

Day 1: Cusco – Inca Trail (Piscacucho – Wayllabamba)

  • Early departure from Cusco to km 82.
  • Start of the trek with views of the Veronica Glacier and the Vilcanota River.
  • Visit to the archaeological complex of Patallacta.
  • Lunch and rest before continuing to Wayllabamba, where the first campsite is set up.
  • Included meals: Lunch, dinner.

Day 2: Inca Trail (Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo)

  • Start of the most challenging section, reaching the Warmiwañusca Pass (4200 meters above sea level).
  • Panoramic views of the mountain ranges.
  • Descent to the Pacaymayo Valley, where the second campsite is set up.
  • Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 3: Inca Trail (Pacaymayo – Phuya Patamarka – Wiñayhuayna)

  • Visit to the archaeological complex of Runkurakay, just a 30-minute walk away.
  • Observation of the fully paved Inca trail.
  • Visit to Sayacmarca, an impressive architectural complex.
  • Passage through a tunnel to the archaeological site of Phuyupatamarca.
  • Descent through the dense vegetation of the cloud forest.
  • Arrival at Wiñayhuayna and setting up the third campsite.
  • Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 4: Inca Trail (Wiñayhuayna) – Machu Picchu – Cusco

  • Early departure (4:00 am) to Intipunku (Sun Gate) with views of Machu Picchu.
  • Guided tour of the Machu Picchu Citadel (1.5 hours), exploring its main structures.
  • Free time to explore Machu Picchu.
  • Return by train to Ollantaytambo (6:30 pm) and road transport to Cusco.
  • Estimated arrival at Cusco’s Plaza de Armas at 10:30 pm.
  • Included meal: Breakfast.

What you need to bring:

  • Original passport (and ISIC student card if applicable).
  • A daypack.
  • Warm sleeping bag.
  • Lightweight trekking boots with good ankle support.
  • Trekking sticks (metal tips are not allowed on the trail).
  • Warm clothes and layers for variable temperatures, especially at night.
  • Gloves or mittens, scarf, wool socks, and a woolen hat for cold nights.
  • T-shirts and trekking pants that zip off to short pants for comfort.
  • Flashlight or head torch with extra batteries.
  • Camera and extra batteries.
  • Rain poncho.
